Northborough – For a fourth year consecutively, the Northborough Police Department has hosted an open house by throwing open its doors and giving residents a peek into what goes on inside.
This year’s event was held Oct. 12 which may not have been the nicest day of year with the remnants of a fall nor’easter lingering, but Police Chief William Lyver and his staff were all smiles as a steady stream of visitors – including old and new friends – dropped by.
“It’s a great event because it attracts families with kids who have no idea what’s in an officer’s vehicle or what’s on the tables and the things that they carry,” remarked Northborough Selectman Leslie Rutan, who was thrilled to be there again having had attended last year. “I don’t think generally that people are aware of all those nifty things that are here to assist our officers. I think it’s great for them to see.”
Officer William Griffin noted that their dispatch center was a big attraction which a lot of kids who come in love to see.
In addition to their 911/communications center, attendees also had a chance to check out a holding cell.
The department was appreciative of the interest and support displayed by the community.
They shared via Facebook: “You don’t have to wait for an open house to get a tour of our station. As long as we have an officer available we are happy to show you around.”
