Northborough – Community members of all ages attended a daylong celebration Nov. 2 to mark the 100th anniversary of Vincent F. Picard American Legion Post 234 in Northborough. Concurrently, this year is American Legion’s centennial nationally.

Northborough Post 234 is represented year-round by its color guard at parades, school events and community ceremonies. At the 100th-anniverary celebration, they presented the colors during an opening ceremony while event chair Bill Callaghan led guests reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Grilled burgers and hot dogs were available during the six-hour open house. A highlight of the patriotic party was an opportunity for guests to explore inside the post’s M60 main battle tank. A number of other military vehicles were stationed on the grounds. American Legion Riders Chapter 234 parked their motorcycles outside the post’s entrance.

Among organizations offering literature inside the post were Boros Cares 4 Troops, Easterseals Military & Veteran Services, Lutz Buddy Up Massachusetts, and Veterans Northeast Outreach Center. Military mementos were displayed including uniforms and war-era newspaper clippings.

Festivities continued into the evening with an appreciation dinner followed by musical entertainment provided by the band Torn and Frayed.
