Northborough – Like so many young men in the late 1970s, a group of Algonquin Regional High School teens formed a rock band, Nibot-Noslen. After a 10-year run, life, with all its various commitments came into play and the band broke up. But six years ago, after a 22-year hiatus, the members decided their days of playing music were not quite over. And so for the past six years Nibot-Noslen has come together for a special concert on the Friday after Thanksgiving for a reunion gig. But it’s not just a show for their loyal fans – it’s also a fundraiser for an important local organization, the Northborough Food Pantry.
This year the sixth annual “Party for the Pantry” will be held on Friday, Nov. 29, from 6 -12 p.m. at JJ’s Sports Bar and Grill, 380 SW Cutoff, Northborough (next to the Christmas Tree Shop Plaza).
The band’s name comes from the last names of its two founders, Danny Tobin and Jimmy Nelson, spelled backwards.
Danny’s brother, Jim, calls himself “diehard fan,” and also helps to promote the band’s shows.
“This is a great reunion night for Algonquin alum as well as Northborough residents,” he said. “We’ve typically gotten around 300-400 people at the shows.”
“We thought it would be a great idea to try to raise monies for the food pantry,” he added. “The local scouts do a great job collecting food [in early November] but we know the pantry can use money to buy things that can’t be collected like fresh produce and meats.”
At each of the prior day-after Thanksgiving concerts, the band has raised several thousand dollars for the pantry, he noted.
“We’re excited to be at JJ’s this year,” Jim said. “Pete Sarro, the owner, really jumped at the opportunity to help out the pantry.”
There is a $10 suggested minimum donation at the door that night. Concert-goers may purchase food from JJ’s menu. Solo acoustic artist Luke Tobin will open the show at 6 p.m., then the Sty Monsters will play at 6:45 p.m. with Nibot-Noslen following at 8:30 p.m.
