NORTHBOROUGH – Masks will no longer be required in municipal buildings in Northborough after Feb. 28.
This decision comes after the Northborough Board of Health voted earlier this month to lift the town’s indoor mask mandate, effective Feb. 9.
It also follows a vote on Feb. 16 by the Regional School Committee to no longer require masks at Algonquin Regional High School starting on Feb. 28.
The next day both the Northborough and Southborough school committees decided that students at Trottier and Melican middle schools would also be able to remove their masks starting Feb. 28.
“This decision was made with the most recent state advisory regarding face coverings in mind, as well as the school department’s decision to lift the mask requirement…,” the town said in a press release announcing the end of its municipal building mask mandate on Thursday.
Though masks will soon be optional in these public spaces in Northborough, they’ll remain mandatory in Northborough and Southborough elementary schools until March 14, per the decisions of the Northborough and Southborough School Committees.
Southborough did separately opt to lift its mask mandate for municipal buildings last week.
