Northborough –Zack Shelton and the Kentucky based band 64 to Grayson will make you want to stomp your boots at their concert sponsored by Northboro Church of Christ. The event will be held on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at 456 West Main St., Northborough and is open to the public.
Shelton and band members Craig Cunningham and Tiffany Baker started the band in their junior year of college and have been touring as 64 to Grayson full time since graduation in May 2013. The band’s name is associated to the route to college – interstate 64 to Grayson, Kentucky.
Northboro Church of Christ member Lorna Johnson coordinated the event and admits she is a country girl at heart.
While in Indiana last December, she attended one of the band’s Christmas concerts and started the plans to bring them to Northborough. This will be the first time the band will bring their alternative country and gospel music to Massachusetts as part of their Eastern tour.
“We are looking forward to the concert and meeting some great people,” said Shelton. “We also want to encounter some really good clam chowder.”
Shelton’s love of country music started young as he grew up listening to country music and said for the most part lyrics to a well-written country song are relatable and realistic.
“We consider ourselves alternative country or God-country because our music and show is wholesome, Christ-honoring, and got some boot stompin to it!”
Johnson feels that the style of entertainment reaches all ages and the band is really upbeat and interactive with the crowd.
The band is currently working on its fourth album and is aiming for its release early 2018.
“It’s a bit different than any of our earlier releases because it is almost exclusively a worship album,” said Shelton. “We’ve really taken our time to get this one out because we want it to have a spiritual depth to it.”
The last album “Loved and Free” was released in late 2015 and Shelton said it really put their cards on the table lyrically, and some of their favorite songs to play live are from that album.
The band plays over 200 shows annually at fairs, festivals and churches.
Shelton promises a fun show.
“We’ll be giving away free stuff, keeping the crowd involved and you know we’re gonna let Tiffany tear up on that fiddle! If you don’t have plans, come on out and bring a friend! If you don’t have friends… well… come on out and make one!”
The band will also be performing Saturday, Oct. 14 from 12 – 2 p.m. at Fay Mountain Farm located at 12 Cemetery Rd. in Charlton as part of the farm’s fall festival.
