Northborough – The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a new wine and malt liquor license for Shangri-La Yaki Sushi during a continued public hearing held during the board’s July 15 meeting.
Shangri-La Yaki Sushi – located at 259 West Main St. – is set to be managed by Dong Lin, contingent upon his completion of Massachusetts TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) certification class which, according to Lin’s attorney, he will have within the next two weeks. Prior to moving to Northborough, Lin lived in Manhattan, where he managed a restaurant since 2008.
Shangri-La Yaki Sushi replaces China Moon at the West Main Street location, which ended up for sale in May after being open little more than one year. The owner of China Moon decided to sell the restaurant after the Board of Health ordered them to hire a consultant amid numerous critical health violations during repeated visits.
Selectmen also unanimously voted to revoke the all alcoholic beverages restaurant license held by Sea Dog Steak & Ale on 318 Main St. The restaurant closed abruptly last December. Management had cited the “changing needs of the city and of our company.”
Jaime Merrill, the leasing manager for Capital Group Properties, the companies that owns the building at the location, said there had been negotiations with Sea Dog Steak & Ale to remain at the site, but they were unable to be finalized. According to Merrill, Capital Group Properties are currently in negotiations with a “very nice establishment.”
“I can’t disclose the restaurant yet, but I think that the town of Northborough would be very pleased,” she added.
