Northborough – There’s been a murder at the Northborough Senior Center – well, at the 1950s sock hop murder mystery dinner theater Aug. 9.
The sock hop goes horribly wrong when student body president, Wayne Maker, is murdered. Maker was portrayed by Alex Rich-Shea, an actor from the Murder Mystery Company that produced the evening’s program.
The murder mystery, presented by the Friends of the Northborough Senior Center, was the first event of its kind held at the center. Proceeds will support programs and activities of the Senior Center.
Roughly 85 guests enjoyed a full dinner including appetizers, which were served in the foyer as they gathered. They then had their choice of roast beef, chicken or a vegetarian option for their entrée, followed by coffee and dessert. While they dined, ‘50s tunes played in the background.
Ice cream sundae centerpieces were created by board member Martha Michalewich and many guests got into the spirt by wearing costumes reflecting the 1950s. There were poodle skirts, panama hats, slicked back hair and t-shirts with rolled up sleeves.
“This is an absolute 1950s style blast. It’s wonderful and it’s something that the Friends thought would be a great fundraiser….everyone is going to be a part of it and its really going to be a lot of fun tonight,” said Anita Hagspiel, board president who co-chaired the event with Sue Savage.
“I want to thank the Friends who came up with this great idea,” said Senior Center Director Kelly Burke. “Everybody was really looking forward to it and we are going to have a great time. The funds will go directly to the Senior Center which is always great to support our programs or something that we need. The friends are super!”
