Northborough – The smell of pulled pork and chicken greeted guests to the second annual Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) Football Boosters Tailgate BBQ fundraiser Sept. 7 held at the Vincent F. Picard American Legion Post 234.

The Football Boosters received 100 percent of the profit from the event as the facility rental was generously donated and the Texas BBQ Company provided all the food.

ARHS Boosters President Tom Spataro said events like this generate community while raising funds needed for the teams. There are about 85 football players this season on the freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams.

“The money raised is used for end-of-the-season banquets and trophies as well as supplementing the school budget for replacement of uniforms and equipment,” said Jodi Del Re.

“We raise about $200,000 a year for the high school,” said Spataro.

One of the bigger goals of the Boosters this year is to update the outdoor facilities, including upgrades to the field, stadium and tennis courts. The feasibility of a turf field is under way.

Community business sponsorships are welcomed. For more information, visit www.arhsboosters.com.
